Your books, handled — by people you actually know!

Freedom Financial Accounting provides outsourced bookkeeping, controller, and fractional CFO services to small businesses across the country, from our home base in Bartlett, Illinois. Keep your own books with an accountant checking your work, hand the books to us entirely, or add CFO-level guidance as you grow — one firm, one fixed monthly price, no surprises.

Remote-first · QuickBooks Online · Fixed monthly pricing — published, not “call for a quote” · Tax preparation for ongoing clients

Freedom Financial Accounting is a remote-first bookkeeping and accounting firm in Bartlett, Illinois, led by husband-and-wife team Brian Hunt (controller and fractional CFO services) and Rebecca Hunt (lead bookkeeper). Every client works with a dedicated bookkeeper, supervised and reviewed by Rebecca. The firm serves small businesses nationwide in four tiers — Oversight from $350/month, Bookkeeping from $750/month, Controller from $1,500/month, and Fractional CFO from $2,500/month — with custom engagements for larger or more complex businesses. Tax preparation is offered to ongoing clients, whose books the firm keeps.

Has your business outgrown its bookkeeping?

  • Your books are always a month (or three) behind
  • Your bookkeeper quit — again — or can’t keep up
  • You do the books yourself at night and aren’t sure they’re right
  • You make pricing and hiring decisions without trusting your numbers
  • Tax time means a scramble, because nothing was kept up during the year
  • You need a controller or CFO’s judgment, but not a full-time salary

If you nodded at any of those, that’s exactly the work we take over — or check behind you, if you’d rather stay hands-on.

Start where you are. Move up as you grow.

Every tier includes everything below it.

Oversight — from $350/mo

You keep your own books. We review them monthly, keep you tax-ready, and answer your questions. For owners who want to stay engaged in their numbers, with an accountant in their corner. A dedicated bookkeeper is your day-to-day contact.

Bookkeeping — from $750/mo

We do the books: transactions categorized, accounts reconciled, financial statements every month.

Controller — from $1,500/mo

Everything in Bookkeeping, plus a disciplined monthly close, cash-flow monitoring, payroll and sales-tax oversight, and a monthly review of your financials with Brian.

Fractional CFO — from $2,500/mo

Everything in Controller, plus budgeting and forecasting, pricing and profitability analysis, and a CFO’s input on the big decisions.

Custom — quoted after a books review

Multi-entity, multi-state, inventory or job costing, complex payroll, or systems work that doesn’t fit a box.

Tax is available to ongoing clients at every level — business and personal, priced openly (from $1,250/yr), never a surprise.

Like doing your own books? Good. Do them with a safety net.

Some owners want their hands on their numbers — we’d feel the same way. Oversight is built for you: you keep the day-to-day books in QuickBooks Online, our lead bookkeeper reviews your work every month, flags what looks off, keeps everything tax-ready, and answers the “am I doing this right?” questions before they become tax-season problems. You’re not handing your business over. You’re getting a second set of professional eyes on it.

Behind on your books?

Catch-up and cleanup is where most relationships start, and it’s priced as its own fixed project — scoped after we look at your books, agreed in writing before any work begins. Then your monthly tier keeps you current, so you never pay for the same cleanup twice. The books review is free.

How it works

1. Book a consultation

A free call about where your books stand and what you need from your numbers. If we’re not the right fit, we’ll say so.

2. Books review

You grant view-only QuickBooks access; we assess transaction volume, accounts, and the condition of your books.

3. Fixed-price proposal

Your exact monthly price, in writing, before work starts. E-sign and first payment in one link. Cleanup, if you need it, is quoted separately and honestly.

4. Onboard & first close

A short secure checklist connects your systems and gathers your documents; your first clean monthly close lands at the end of onboarding — then every month after.

Who we help

We work best with owner-led businesses that have outgrown a part-time bookkeeper, a spouse-and-a-spreadsheet, or doing it themselves at midnight — and aren’t ready for an in-house accounting department. Our clients have included businesses here in the Chicago area and as far away as New York and Alabama, because the work is built to be remote from day one.

Led by two people you’ll actually know.

National bookkeeping services hand you a dashboard and a rotating cast. We’re a husband-and-wife-led firm: you’ll have a dedicated bookkeeper who knows your business, working under named leadership you can put a face to. The tier you choose decides how we work together — that’s deliberate, and it’s in the pricing chart in plain sight.

Rebecca Hunt — Lead Bookkeeper

Rebecca leads our bookkeeping: she sets how your books are kept, reviews the work, and is the standard every account is held to. Today she also carries client accounts herself; as we grow, your dedicated bookkeeper works under her review — the person changes only if the quality doesn’t have to.

Brian Hunt — Controller & Fractional CFO

Brian reviews the close, watches cash flow and compliance, and works with owners on budgets, pricing, and the decisions the numbers should be driving. At Controller level and above, Brian is personally in your numbers every month.

Taxes, without the March scramble.

We prepare business and personal taxes for our ongoing clients — the businesses whose books we keep. That means your return is built on reconciled books we already know, not a shoebox and a prayer. We don’t take tax-only engagements; if all you need is a return, we’re not your firm, and we’d rather tell you that up front.

Frequently asked questions

How much does outsourced bookkeeping cost?

Our published tiers start at $350/month for Oversight, $750 for Bookkeeping, $1,500 for Controller services, and $2,500 for Fractional CFO services. Your exact fixed price is set after a short review of your books and confirmed in writing before work starts.

Do I have to give up doing my own books?

No. Oversight is built for owners who want to keep their books: we review your work monthly, keep you tax-ready, and answer your questions.

Who will actually work on my books?

You’ll have a dedicated bookkeeper — one person who knows your business, not a call center. Our bookkeeping is led and reviewed by Rebecca Hunt, our lead bookkeeper. Brian Hunt provides controller and fractional CFO services, personally, at the Controller tier and above.

What software do you use?

We work primarily in QuickBooks Online, and with Paylocity for payroll clients. We work inside your QuickBooks file, with access you can revoke at any time — your books and data stay yours.

Can you work with us if we’re not in Illinois?

Yes. We’re based in Bartlett, Illinois and work remotely with clients nationwide; everything runs through QuickBooks Online, secure document sharing, and scheduled calls.

My books are behind. Can you still help?

Yes — most clients start there. Cleanup is quoted as a separate fixed project after the books review, then your monthly tier keeps you current.

Do you prepare taxes for new clients?

Tax preparation is a service for our ongoing bookkeeping and accounting clients. If you’re signed up for monthly services, you’re in — whenever you started. Your return is prepared from books we’ve reconciled, including any catch-up needed to bring the year current.

Rebecca’s thoroughness with the books lends to the seamless transition for Brian to complete my tax preparation. Rebecca and Brian have significantly reduced my stress level with bookkeeping and tax preparation. I highly recommend their service.”

“I highly recommend Freedom Financial Accounting. Rebecca does a wonderful job managing my business accounting and keeping me up to date. She communicates quickly and thoroughly. But what I appreciate most is her pleasant demeanor and her trustworthiness. She makes an aspect of my business that stresses me out, much less stressful!”
